[English] I first received a German e-copy of this book via NetGalley, but I wasn’t aware of the fact that it was the second book in a series until I started reading it, so it took me a while to get the first book but I read it around the middle of the month and got around to the second one just last week.

While I really liked the first book, I loved this one! It had all the reading enjoyment as well as a great heroine and plot!

As with the first book the worldbuilding was great. Salisburys’ writing is simply beautiful, she weaves a tail of myths and monsters and princess, all coming to live in the rather dreary world Errin lives in. I loved seeing a different part of this world. Not only is this taking place in a different country, in a democracy, as opposed to a monarchy, we also see how the ‘other half’ lives. Where Twylla lives at court, Errin lives in what can be classified as a hovel, her neighbors criminals on the run from the law.

Another polar opposite is our protagonist. I loved Errin. She is a strong, young woman who will do everything to protect her family and those she considers her friends. She knows what she wants and is very used to dealing with misfortune. She does what she has to to take care of herself and her mother and isn’t afraid of breaking the law to do so.

The plot takes some time to pick up, but once it does the pacing is great. I don’t mind the slower pacing in the beginning of the book, because I believe it was needed to set up the story some more. While I felt like the first book was lacking when it came to the plot I just loved this plot line. The fairytale prince come to live, literally, is something I haven’t read before and it held me captivated the entire time.

The revelation in the end was something else though. I was so surprised, all though I’m sure some of you saw it coming miles away. I really hope there’ll be a happy end for Twylla and Lief in the third book and somehow I feel like there is more to this than meets the eye.

But speaking of Lief, while I did like him, again I simply loved Silas.

I can’t wait to dive into the last book in the series and I’m so excited to see where this story leads me. I absolutely loved this book and rated it a full 5 Stars.

[Deutsch] Dieses Buch habe ich Ende Januar bei NetGalley angefragt und leider erst als ich anfangen wollte zu lesen gemerkt, dass es das zweite Buch einer Serie ist. Es hat eine Weile gedauert, bis ich das erste Buch hatte, aber ich habe das Mitte März gelesen und konnte dann letzte Woche mit diesem Buch anfangen.

Das erste Buch hat mir wirklich gut gefallen, aber das hier ist noch viel besser, es gibt eine super Heldin und eine tolle Handlung!

Wie auch schon im ersten Buch ist Welt wirklich toll, und ich liebe Salisburys Schreibstil. Ihre Geschichte ist ein Märchen, wort-wörtlich zum Leben erwacht, Monster und Prinzessinnen, alles in der eher trüben Welt in der Errin lebt.

Mir hat es sehr gut gefallen eine andere Seite der schon bekannten Welt zu sehen. Anstatt in einer Monarchie spielt dieses Buch in einer Demokratie, und anstatt an einem Königshof lebt unsere Heldin in einem kleinen Dorf nahe der Grenze, in das es all diejenigen verschlägt die auf der Flucht vor dem Gesetz sind.

Errin, die Protagonistin, ist das genau Gegenteil von Twylla, der Hauptperson des ersten Buchs. Sie ist eine starke, junge Frau, die alles tun würde um ihre Familie und Freund zu beschützen. Sie weiß was sie will und Unglück ist ihr nicht unbekannt. Sie tut was nötig ist um sich um ihre Mutter kümmern zu können, auch wenn sie dafür das Gesetz brechen muss.

Die Handlung braucht eine Weile um richtig loszulegen, aber dann ist das Pacing super und der langsame Teil am Anfang ist auch kein Problem, da man diese Zeit braucht um die neue Heldin und ihr Leben kennen zu lernen.

Was mir im ersten Teil an Handlung gefehlt hat ist hier vorhanden und die Geschichte ist spannend bis zum Schluss.

Auch die Überraschung am Ende war sehr unerwartet und beinahe unglaublich. Zumindest auf den ersten Blick. Wenn man genauer auf das erste Buch zurück schaut, kann man erahnen, das nicht alles so ist wie es scheint. Ich hoffe trotzdem noch auf ein Happy-End für Twylla und Lief, und kann mir auch gut vorstellen, dass das noch passieren wird.

Ich kann es gar nicht erwarten, dass dritte und letzte Buch der Reihe zu lesen, da ich dieses hier absolut geliebt habe. Ich habe dem Buch 5 von 5 Sternen gegeben.
