In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

When I got Roar out of my FairyLoot Box I couldn't wait to finally read it! The cover mesmerized me from the first time I saw it and the synopsis sounded awesome.
So I took it with me on vacation and I read it within two days!

I loved it so much! The idea behind it and the plot seemed really original to me, as I haven't read anything similar yet.
The plot was exciting until the very end and I cannot wait to continue with the second part of the series!

This was the first Cora Carmack book I read and I loved her world building. I really enjoyed all the intricate details Carmack wove into this world of hers. Everything was very complex, yet somewhat realistic.
The plot was very layered and once you figure out one part/ one question something new pops up to keep you engaged.

I love our main character! Compared to a lot of other heroines, she isn't being described as near perfect and very good at this and amazing at that and incredibly pretty on top of that.
In fact she is far from perfect and has one huge 'failure' that seems to rule her life.
Thought this story she slowly learns to accept herself and she becomes ever stronger and I'm sure at the end of the series she will be this amazingly powerful heroine, but right now she is a struggling girl fighting her way towards what she wants and who she wants to be.

And just like our main character was different and great, so was the romance. No triangles or anything like that. Just a slow building yet intense romance. A budding relationship you can get behind, one that seems realistic and happens over time.

The group of friends she travels with is quite diverse and shows some great friendships, which adds another layer of awesomeness to the book!

After having read this review you can probably already guess that I rated this book 5 stars, and not just because on the cover our heroine looks just like Dany Stormborn.
