The start to another awesome High Fantasy adventure with a strong female lead. I loved this book and rated it 5 stars.

The worldbuilding was fantastic and easily understandable and the plot was really intriguing.

I loved the two main characters and how their relationship develops. In this instance I loved the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope, because it was very well done.

The way the relationship developed seemed very authentic, both considering the situation as well as the characters.

The two main characters were very well written and shown with both their flaws as well as their strengths.

I especially loved our heroine because while she is quite a strong character she wasn’t portrait as some kind of super hero.

The most important thing however was how she struggled with the system she was living in. She is a very wealthy and important young women both, military wise as well as politically and socially and there are a lot of slaves in her household.

It was clear from the very beginning that she didn’t appreciate the way her people enslaved other peoples and how their society worked.

And while she struggled against this in her own small ways she didn’t move to overthrow her empire right from the start. I sometimes caught myself thinking ‘why is she even friends with these people when they support this system and this society and all the wrongs happening here’, but the thing is, her friends are still her friends. While she knows that there are certain things she can’t talk about with her friends she still loves them as well as her father and a lot of other people heavily involved in everything that’s going on.

So while I think it would be only right for her to completely stand up for her believes, try to overthrow the empire she lives in and distance herself from everyone supporting said empire, that’s just not realistic.

Her rebelling in her own small ways is the most probable thing for her to do, so again, I really love the authenticity of her character.

The plot is also very interesting, although I don’t want to talk about it too much, because I don’t want to spoiler anyone. I loved how it was heavy with politics and war strategies, yet easily understandable.

I can’t wait to start reading the next two books and see how everything developes!
